Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
Zafra Master Reserve 21 is a premium rum distilled in Panama, at Las Cabras Distillery, by master blender Francisco "Don Pancho" Fernandez. The rum is made from molasses and aged in American bourbon barrels for at least 21 years.
I would have given an 8.5 if I could. Very close to a 9 for me. Easy sipping rum, smooth enough for the price and not too sweet. A good rum to add to your collection.
Finally a Rum my wife likes as well. She is a whiskey drinker and really likes Zafra. One of the few I drink on the rocks no mixing.
Seems to be a pure rum but it doesnt really jump out at me as something I want to drink. I've had an open bottle for almost 2 years. I enjoy it when I have it, just not something I seek out.
Was gifted this one and it's truly a treasure. I have several guests who deem this their favorite in my collection. Well-balanced, smooth, great as a mixer but that may be wasting it's potential. Enjoy it immensely with a cigar. For some reason we always want cigars when we drink this rum! It works well for those longer sessions with it's balance and smoothness.
First impression: typical vaniulla rum. That's where Mount Gay XO, Malteco, Plantation XO comes to mind.
Smell: vanilla, caramel, tropical fruit
Flavor: cereals (sesame), caramel, slight bitterness and spice, sweet vanilla
An usual rum for the price. Not bad, but I would have expected more.
Tastes likeva Demerara rum to me
Is smooth and has flavor
Light color, good aroma but taste wise, it’s a bit harsh for my palette. There are so many better ones than this. The 30 year was recommended but I couldn’t find it locally so I bought the 21 year old.
Was very disappointed for a 21 year old, found much better runs in some 12 year olds.
Veľmi pekne vyvážený skôr suchý rum, zreje po bourbone. Podľa môjho názoru trošku preceňovany vzhľadom na vyššiu cenu. Každopádne každý kto ma rád suchšie rumy si pochutna
I had many trips to Cuba and always enjoyed Havana Club 7 yo. Up until now I did not try anything else except Cuban rum. Once I've brought from there Santiago de Cuba 11yo and have found it so smooth and delicius compared to HC. Since then I've discovered world is full of different rums ). Had tried 12 of them so far. And I will rate them comparing to HC as the base rated 6.
Frutas, especias, barrica y mucha barrica. Bien hecho como Ron y bien añejado en Bourbon.
Scored this on a whim. Ignoring the fact that the extra tall bottle had a hard time fitting in my bar.. my solution was to leave on the bar top.. THUS... it went rather quickly. Delicious. Smooth. Enjoyed Neat on a cold evening. Will enjoy again soon.
Easily one of my favorites. Very smooth, with balanced caramel, vanilla, and light molasses flavors. I normally am not find of a strong or heavy molasses flavors rum but this one is exactly right. Subtley sweet, but not overpowering at all. Has a slight burn (very slight) but is a delayed warm tingle that brings out focus on the after taste. Not the longest after taste, but long enough to full enjoy the flavors it presents.
For me I sip this one neat, and it goes down sooo easy. Never added ice as for me it was never necessary and I am so happy with it neat I never had the urge to experiment.
It's a little higher than other rums ($45 Miami where I buy it) but no where near the exclusive prices. Yet, I'd take this any day and $45 for this beats any whiskey hands down in this price range.
Given the flavor profiles I was afraid I wasn’t going to like this rum as much as others. Given the rating though I felt like I had to try it...and I a so glad I did. This is an extraordinarily smooth and pleasant rum to be savored slowly. Some say it has a burn to it, but I would say it is more like a fireside warmth. It’s like molasses, oak, maple syrup, and fine tobacco next to a crackling fire. This is absolutely becoming a mainstay in my cabinet. I am impressed.
Post edit: 2 weeks after popping the cork on this bottle I still can’t get it’s beautifully complex mix of flavors out of my head. That being the case I think I have to bump this up to a full 10. This rum is a master piece to be savored slowly on every sip.
Zafra 21 is my fourth rum and my new favorite. The nose is very similar to El Dorado 15 but the taste is much milder it really does not burn the throat. Absolutely recommend this charm :-)
I love it full of taste with too many diferent tastet's in diferent moods
For my 56th review i decided to open this bottle of Zafra 21 I bought a few months ago, what a great rum, i feel like I can kill a bottle of this in one night.. so smooth and flavorful, similar to Brugal Leyenda but way better, fire rums coming out of Panama, Abuelo and now Zafra! My number one so far!
Virkelig god rom.
Now here's an oddball. First marketed as Panamanian, then it changed to - Trinidad. Anyhoo, the taste is just bland, sweet and off. Not my cup of tea - I wouldn't waste money on this.
Nice fruity nose, apricot. Really nice spicy bite that lingers with a great long finish. Walnuts and caramel, sweet but not overpowering. Doesn’t change much, figured it would be more complex, which doesn’t push it up to a 9. But nice for sweet folks who like zacapa XO.
Had higher expectations, simple and smooth rhum, with no clear character
Absolute perfection. It has the right balance of sweet and burn. I could just smell it for hours. I had a pour of it in the BVIs and having a hard time finding it. Not sure what a bottle cost but it’s worth it.
Rich, smooth, complex. Medium sweetness, bit of wood, citrus, molasses and liquorice. Top rum. An 8.5
To be honest, Panamian rum was not so much my preference, such as Abuelo 12 year and Malecon 12 year. Too strong dry plune or raisin like flover for me.
However, I saw this rum rating and I got this Panamian rum Zafra 21 year.
This has rich and deeply taste of butter caramel, chocolate, sweet tart and cask flover.
I'm satisfied. Thank you Panama !
