Only scored it this high because it's cheap and tastes like other coconut rums.

It taste like malibu and a third of the price. Not too bad.

Good for a Pina coladas or other foo-foo drinks but would probably make you sick if drinking it straight.

The aroma from the bottle identifies it definitively as a coconut rum but it's only 20%ABV (40 proof) rather than the typical 40%ABV (80 proof) or higher for rum. I think of it more as a rum liqueur. However as far as coconut rums go, it's not as good a Koloa coconut rum (the best) but better than Blue Chair Bay, Brinley's, and Wicked Dolphin coconut rums. And light-years ahead of that Parrot Bay coconut rum which is nothing more than swill.

Certainly this is a rum for rum punches and other fruit drinks. Very sweet. Somewhat syrupy. Lotsa coconut flavor. A hint of vanilla, too. An idea I had is to make a rum cake with this for coconut flavor. I bet that would turn out delicious.

Decent enough for a cheap readily available coconut rum, a step above Malibu but below bacardi and not in the same league as Brinley's.

Another review from my blog...

Wow. You want some sweet coconut candy? Whaler’s it is! OMG this is delicious! Whaler’s is a very inexpensive flavored rum to begin with at $9.95 locally. I caught this on sale for a whopping $6.95!!! It is so tasty though!
Whaler’s is soooo smooth… I mean i guess i should expect smooth at 40 proof. But i have also tasted some seriously rough 42 proof flavored rums. Here there is no alcohol taste at all. What is there? Plenty of coconut. More coconut than any coconut rum i have tried so far. Lots of sweet cream of coconut taste here. There is also a heep of vanilla. Lots and lots of vanilla on tap for a coconut rum. This is really NICE. Killer Coconut does have a short finish and leaves a bit of a dry mouth feel. I’m guessing this is because there is a lot of sugar. It’s not ungodly sweet but it is still a VERY sweet rum.
Honestly at 20% alcohol it isn’t really a worthwhile mixer to me. But combine Whaler’s Killer Coconut with another stronger rum to take up the slack in your cocktail and it is awesome!
You could be like me and just sip this wonderful candy concoction neat and be happy. If you need to tame the sweetness a bit just mix it with another rum. Maybe a white rum like Shellback, Bacardi Superior, or Captain Morgan White. You should always have those on hand for cocktails! I actually tried a bit of Blackheart with it in a glass and it was a fairly nice taste.
OK. On pure flavor Whaler’s Killer Coconut is now my favorite coconut rum. It’s not even a contest. I do wish they had packed all this taste into a higher proof rum. I think they could get as high as a 60 proof like their Vanille and keep the same sweet smooth taste.

Not a bad coconut rum. However, low proof like Malibu. I think it has a richer coconut flavor though

I had to buy a bottle for my collection and it's not bad. It overwhelms a bit with the coconut, but not bad in a mixed drink.
