You might think what you want about Solera and their declaration of years in barrels but this one is a bargain for what you get...well balanced with taste of honey, vanilla and fresh fruits...even chocolate. If you like sweet rons this ist for sure one to try. Price for what you get ist excellent 👍
At first : I cannot believe, that this should be a pot still rum, like it's written here above. But I couldn't found something more about that question in the web.
Let's start !
Nose : honey, cocoa, caramell. Really pleasant
Palate : very chocolately, cocoa, some honey, a little coffee. Perfect mix for me
Finish : medium and sweet. No sharpness, nothing burns, just honey sweetness.
Conclusion : this is really a tasteful rum. But I guess, that there is a little sugar added because of so much sweetness. I will try to find it out. Until then I give it a cautious 8. Maybe I have to revise it, when it's to much sugared. Coming back soon.
Update 11/07/2023 : I found out, that there is more than 30 Gramm sugar/ltr. inside and less alcohol than labled. So one point less than primary ratetd. All in all just a 7, but nonetheless it's good :-)
The look:
It has a cool bottle. Its a nice design that feels classy and looks great on the shelf. The rum has a great colour and looks great in the glas. Not too light, not too dark, just perfect.
The nose:
It has a lot of nose. I get alcohol caramel, and some wood. I was sure it was overproof until i checked the bottle wich has it at 40% to my surpise. It has a nice nose, but I've had better for less money.
The taste:
Once it hits your mouth its incredibly smooth. Has zero alcohol to it. I get caramel on the pallet. But once the afterburn comes around the alcohol pops up. It brings some wood along with it. Not to much sweetnes. It has layers that it works through. Its nice and pretty complex.
Overall:
Great on the eye, strong nose and a not too sweet caramel with some wood to finish it off. Its a very intresting and a great rum, but I've had better for less money.
The taste is caramel, vanilla but for me it is a bit "smoky".
Sweet but certainly not to sweet, slight burn, but very smooth. Smells of vanilla, ripe fruit maybe some citrus. Hints of oak.
One of my go to choices for special evenings with friends or family, and at this price (+/-75€) sharing is not a problem.
Complex, spicy, delicious, sweet type. Similar to a Matusalem 23, but better quality.
Rum without frills as it should be (or better: as I personally like it). Well balanced and not too sweet.
I set out using this website to work out which top tier rums are most affordable and this was the first one I came across and purchased for £70 delivered from Europe. You will not be disappointed!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

9 - The nose is initially coated with caramelised and roasted notes, but one quickly feels that the rum's interest lies elsewhere. Indeed, it seems to reside in a certain fruity, acidic, sweet but definitely exotic and tropical concentration.
With aeration, the balance between the caramelised roundness and the aromatic rum is established, even if it is the sweetness that we retain in the end. The roasted nuts are generously coated, the vanilla pods are as if they were burnt. One can still distinguish this fruity inclination which draws towards the ripe and oozing mirabelle plums.
8-The entry in mouth is well rounded, greedy like a caramel and tender like a nougat. A few lightly roasted almonds bring a little relief. The vanilla spreads languorously on the palate, and the tongue is impregnated with gingerbread.
8-The finish is marked by notes of old fruit in brandy, with a hint of ginger.
