Caramel, strong vanilla, cinnamon, bananas and brown sugar. It has been enhanced with insane amounts of added sugar.

I was looking forward to trying this rum with all the great reviews. Unfortunately not my kind of rum. Way to sickly sweet. I gave the bottle away.
Sweet, raisins, sweet. for people who dont know real rum

This rum contains no less than 41g/L of added sugar and that is too much sugar for my taste. It would be much better if this rum could have been left to be just pure rum.

I like sweet rum. I like pot still rum. So my expectation from this rum was quite high. But when I've taste this sample I've got huge disappointment. It was no oaky, not rich aroma and just a little bit sweet... I supposed it must be fake-rum but when I've tasted Mantuano it was the same (((

Facile à boire. Bourré de glycol. C'est bon à boire dans les bars quand t'es déjà carpette. Ceux qui le notent à 10 ne connaissent rien au rhum. Définitivement le dernier de mon classement

Dosed and doctored rums that pass themselves off as “premium”by basically manipulating the sugar content are annoyingly ubiquitous these days. Diplomatico RE is perhaps the most shining example of this, they really have the whole world fooled with this one. People mistake sweetness for judicious aging and they assume the elevated price to equal quality. To use some drug terminology, what you actually have here is a stomped on mediocre column still rum which dissipates incredibly fast from the palate (not a good sign). Now, I don’t have a problem with rum coming in many different variations. What I dislike about Diplomatico is that it manipulates its products to feed directly into the stereotype of rums being overly sweet not-quite-real spirits. This is a major insult to the incredible world of rum and I feel that this bottle is cynically manipulating that erroneous perception to cash in from people who don’t know any better. A less-than-mediocre rum and a disservice to the rum world at large. Hats off to their undoubtedly excellent sales and marketing teams though.

With a 7.9 at the time of my writing, this is perhaps the most misleadingly scored rum on the website. Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is an unremarkable, overly sweetened rum with few distinguishing characteristics. It's like having a caramel, butterscotch, rum flavored liqueur.

Too sweet
"The palate evokes chocolate sauce and the sweet toffee, fudge and tropical fruit flavours from the nose"
"The nose is dominated by notes of caramel, toffee and crème. On the back end of the aromas, I can detect a hint of smoke and pineapple"

Smells sweet. It is fruity, oranges, grapes and raisins with scents of chocolate and a sweet almost syrupy.
"The tasting notes on the site are very accurate vanilla, fudge/toffee sauce are noticeable as are notes of vanilla and a finish which is slightly bitter like cocoa which leaves a hit of oakiness on the taste buds. The finish is pretty short. ."

Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Wow, this is like sweet, rum-flavored pancake syrup. Based on the reviews here, I went out and bought a bottle ($40), and was hoping to discover a new favorite sipping rum. It never happened. From the first sip, I was like.."huh?" My background is, I have dietary restrictions and don't drink soda or eat a lot of candy (sugar) or sugary drinks or food, even. So maybe my tolerance for sugar is low, who knows. But this stuff is cloyingly sweet, the aftertaste is similar to that of having eaten hard candy. You can taste this sickly sweet residue in your mouth for long afterwards. Don't get me wrong, it's not "bad" rum, it's sweet and slightly pleasant, but for a rum purist, it's horrible. I can't believe I just blew $40 on this bottle of rum-flavored syrup. It also has a strong scent of vanilla, no doubt added. Like I said, it's not rum, it's a liqueur. It has a nice burn down the throat, but the sticky sweetness is horrible for me, and it makes me want to brush my teeth. Sorry guys, I'm voting against the grain on this one.
