this rum has a nice dark colour,it has quite a strong after taste which for me is no bad thing, ok as a sipper but better with coke and ice.
For drinking it is little bit to hard for me with undeveloped taste, but with a great aroma and thus I use it mainly in the kitchen. Wild boar or other game marinated in this is just heaven ...
Bon rhum très parfumé avec une accroche virile mais pas agressive. A tester.
On a supermarket blend to be honest.
Pretty nasty sickly sweet. Unremarkable.
I'm afraid people are seduced by the pretty bottle. This isn't great rum I'm afraid
For just a few dollars more (isn't that a Clint Eastwood movie?) you can have some of the best I can think of - the Plantation 5 year Barbados. The best few dollars you will ever spend.
For the 12 € I paid for this I got a lot of Rum. I think they somhow updated the original Dark, because it has a new lable now, which says that it also contains some jamaican Rum now and it is possible to taste the typical Jamaica notes now. So if your standard is not to high this one can already be a great sipper.
Schmeckt in Cola nach Rumtopf. Das muss man mögen, so wie ich.
With a mild but rich flavor, albeit a little harsh, it's not a sipper but it works well in a variety of drinks. It's good on the rocks with water, too. I don't have a single favorite rum but if I were forced to choose only one rum to drink for the rest of my life with a limited budget, this would be among the finalists. My ratings don't factor in the price but if they did, this would be an 8 or a 9.
I have'nt tried the old version so i cant really make a comparisson between the two. This new one is said to contain some rum from Jamaica and is double aged in different barrels.
Nose: warm and sweet with fudge, chocolatte and vanilla.
Mouth: first tastes like cognac, (guess its the jamaican part) then it gets spicy with a sweet lingering flavour.
Very priceworthy, i like it :-)
Its sickly sweet and quite cloying.
"There’s nothing complex in the nose just sweet brown sugar."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This rum has a great flavor going on but is not in the cask long enough to really give it the full statement that it's looking to make. This is first aged for 3-5 years with some 8 year blended in. After that is is put into ferrand Cognac casks for another year to a year and a half. This finish comes through quite strong on this one you get a lot different bolder tasting yet very smooth and not spicy at all. This one I rank down because the presence of alcohol is fairly heavy for something even just aged for about 5 years. Bold, slight oak, slight smoke.
Overall for sipping I give this an 8, for not appearing to be artificially sweetened or colored it has a little bit too much alcoholic bite/nose going on. For mixing easily a 10 but I rate my spirits on neat tasting not mixing. I tried the planters punch on the back of the bottle and it was excellent.
A classy all around rum at this excellent price point.
